Assos is known for its natural beauty, historic texture and calm atmosphere. Its narrow, stone-paved streets overlooking the clear waters of the Aegean, traditional stone houses and magnificent views captivate every visitor.
Assos is famous for its magnificent Doric-style temple dating back to the Hellenistic period. Dedicated to the goddess Athena, the temple remains an impressive sight to this day.
Positioned across from the island of Lesbos, Assos was an important center of science and philosophy in antiquity. The famous philosopher Aristotle lived here for a period and gave lectures at the Assos Academy.
Right on the clear waters of Kadırga Bay, enjoy the water at any moment of your stay across our 5 pools: 1 indoor adult pool and 1 indoor children's pool, plus 2 outdoor adult pools and 1 outdoor children's pool with a waterslide. In the 4th century BC, Assos was a center of thought and science that hosted the philosopher Aristotle. Founded as an extension of Plato's school in Athens, the Assos Academy marked an important turning point in the history of philosophy.
Carved into the slope of the acropolis, the ancient theatre is one of Assos's most striking ruins, its semicircular stone rows facing the Aegean. It offers the very same sea view today that it did thousands of years ago.
At the foot of the acropolis hill, the ancient harbour of Assos has occupied the same cove for centuries. Once the heart of trade with Lesbos, this small harbour is today a quiet corner of fishing boats and seaside cafés.
Standing at the centre of Behramkale Village, the Hüdavendigâr Mosque is a historic structure that has survived from the Ottoman era. Right beside the ancient ruins, it adds another layer, this time Ottoman, to Assos's many-layered history.
The distance between Assos and the Greek island of Lesbos marks one of the narrowest points in the Aegean. This proximity has been one of the defining forces shaping the region's history, trade, and views since antiquity.
The olive trees around Assos, some with trunks over 400 years old, are among the region's most deeply rooted natural heritage. The olive oil culture that lives on in their shade is an inseparable part of both Assos's cuisine and its everyday life.
Built atop the ancient acropolis, Behramkale is not simply a ruin site but a living village where people still live, work, and welcome guests today. With its stone houses and local craftspeople, it keeps its finger on Assos's present-day pulse.
