Ancient Streets

Experience

Ancient Streets

Just a short walk from our hotel, Behramkale Village sits at the foot of Assos Ancient City, built into the slopes of the acropolis hill. Wandering its narrow, stone-paved streets feels like stepping back in time — century-old stone houses, wooden-shuttered windows, and narrow passages lined with potted flowers give the village its distinctive character. As you walk, the scent of wild thyme and olive trees fills the air, an inseparable part of Assos's natural atmosphere.

Stone Houses and Small Craftsmen

Most of the traditional stone houses lining the village streets today house small boutique guesthouses, craft shops, and local artisans. From olive-oil soaps and handmade local crafts to freshly pressed olive oil and homemade jams, you'll find a wealth of local products in these small shops. Handmade jewelry and ceramics displayed in the windows are a sign that the village's craft traditions are still very much alive.

The Path Rising to the Acropolis

The ancient streets begin at the village center and gradually climb, merging into the path that leads up to the Temple of Athena on the acropolis hill. This short walk lets you discover both the village's historic texture and the magnificent views of the Aegean Sea and the island of Lesbos, step by step. Along the way you'll encounter ancient stone blocks and remnants of the old city walls, with the occasional spot to pause and rest. As you climb, the widening view also offers a bird's-eye glimpse of Kadırga Bay and our hotel's beachfront location.

Two Sides of Assos: Shore and Hilltop Village

Assos is really made up of two different yet complementary faces: the beachfront shoreline on Kadırga Bay, where our hotel is located, and the historic hilltop village of Behramkale described above. You can enjoy the sea and sun on the shore, then find yourself among ancient stone streets after just a short walk — experiencing two distinct sides of Assos in a single day. This proximity is one of the qualities that makes Assos special for guests who want to both relax and explore.

Tips for Your Visit

We recommend comfortable, flat-soled shoes for walking the streets — the stone paving can be uneven and sloped in places. Early morning or near sunset are the most pleasant times, both for the light and the temperature; the village's most photogenic moments tend to appear during these hours. After your walk, resting with a glass of Turkish tea at one of the village's small coffeehouses is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience local life.

Reachable on foot from our hotel, this area offers a route you can revisit at any time during your stay, discovering something new each time. Whether you want to photograph the historic texture or simply wander and fall into step with Assos's calm rhythm, the ancient streets are waiting for you.
